Sometimes I experience that a image files date/time on the file system differ from the image metadata/EXIF info. They have no effect on files without an _original copy. These utility options automate the maintenance of the _original files created by exiftool. This creation date is preserved on Windows systems where Win32API::File and Win32::API are available regardless of this setting. Hi everyone! I am working on importing all my photos and videos into iPhoto and the problem I am running into is that iPhoto does not recognize original video creation time for videos not recorded on iPhones or iPads - I tried to modify internal MP4 metadata and made sure that creation_time and date metadata tags / attributes are set but iPhoto is still using file creation date when importing. I have the following terminal command for Exiftool (which adds an EXIF date/time header to files which don't have them already (typically scanned images) and copies the OSX file creation date to it): exiftool -r '-alldates. I like this because my wife’s phone saves images as “IMG_YYMMDD_XXXXX. In this post I document the Exiftool bash command for renaming a folder of photo files according to their creation date/time.
